Get the best deals this GSS, all during your lunch break
The end of May is also the beginning of the Great Singapore Sale (GSS).
Much as we want to take advantage of the juicy deals that come with it, most of us, sadly, are trapped at work all day, leaving us only the weekend to hit the shops.
However, if you know where to go, you can dash out, grab some amazing deals, and be back in the office before lunch hour ends. Here are four guides to the best bargains this GSS, perfect for each personality type.
Everybody’s been there before: their first job interview. You’re nervous, and when you step into the waiting area, you notice that everybody is dressed much more formally than you are.
Don’t worry: an interview outfit is fairly simple: a button-up shirt, a pair of trousers, dress shoes, and the piece de resistance: a blazer. You can find all these and more at dapper avenue. They offer 15 per cent off all items, but UnionPay customers get up to 25 per cent off. Or mix and match at Benjamin Barker, which lets you get an extra free item of clothing with any three regular-priced items.
Go half off with Topman and BCBGMAXAZRIA, which are offering 50 per cent off all sale items from June 4 to July 22. The latter also offers 20 per cent off your total bill with a minimum purchase of two items of clothing until June 10. Meanwhile, T.M. Lewin is giving a hefty $50 discount off all shirts from June 8 to 28 for those who show the GoSpree app.
But if you’re really serious about this job, head to CYC Made to Measure to get a made-to-measure 100 per cent Egyptian cotton shirt for $40 off. Or get two of them and a pair of tailored wool-blend trousers for a whopping $130 off. Or even try to pull off the superhero look with their upcoming Marvel line of clothing. Who knows? You might get the job based on your clothes alone.
It’s been a long, tough week at work. The whole office is abuzz with what plans they have planned for the weekend; karaoke and drinks, or brunch with a group of friends.
But you can’t wait that long — your last client gave you a tongue-lashing you won’t soon forget. You need to treat yourself right now. Note that if you’re a veteran of the spa circuit, these promotions won’t apply to you: they’re all only for first-time customers.
First things first: go for the facial. WOne Clinic is offering a Korean Radiant Chemical Peel for just $60. Or take a friend and go to Le Facialle International, which offers a 1-for-1 Perfect Cleanse Facial for $218.
For the full-body experience, DrSpa offers a Clean and Polish Skin Treatment for $150 and a Soothe & Relieve for Legs at $75 for UnionPay cardholders. These are accompanied by a Beauty Insider Skin Analysis worth $75, a DrGL personalised trial kit, and a $20 DrGL product voucher, all absolutely free.
If you’re more of a traditionalist, take $20 off HealSpa’s 60-minute Five Element Healing Therapy, $24.46 off their Neck and Shoulder Treatment, or bring a friend to the 60-minute Relaxing Body Therapy session at just $99 for two.
Finish up by getting your nails done at Nail Palace from June 8 to Aug 12. They are offering a whole slew of their services at staggering discounts, such as a Classic Manicure for just $16, an Express Gel Manicure with Return Soak Off for $19, or a Classic Pedicure with Express Manicure for just $29.
And don’t worry, men, you’re not missing out: Thomas D’Esthetique is giving 30 per cent off all Men’s Grooming Services Packages for the duration of the GSS as well.
Working in town is simultaneously fantastic and awful. On the one hand, the moment work ends, you have the opportunity to dash down to Orchard Road to indulge yourself. On the other hand, for most of the day, you’re reduced to staring longingly at the shops just down the road, just out of reach.
You don’t have to do this anymore. Put on your most comfortable pair of shoes — or get a pair from Arch Angel, which offers 10 per cent off your purchase of a second sale item, and 20 per cent off a third until July 31.
Since you’re going to be racing for those deals, pick up some athletic apparel from Base Athletica, which is offering up to 70 per cent off selected items both in-store and online. Or go casual with dENiZEN, which gives you 20 per cent off your total bill with a minimum purchase of two regular-priced items until July 1.
For the ladies, Shopping at Tiffany’s has 50 per cent off selected brands, while Wallis has the same for all sale items. Meanwhile, Love, Bonito has UnionPay cardholders spoilt for choice with 7 per cent off all purchases, and an additional 15 per cent off with a minimum spend of $180.
Or enjoy the summer sun at the beach with Ocean Paradise, with 50 per cent off selected swimwear. Plus, with every spend of $250, UnionPay members can receive a drawstring bag worth $30.
Fancy some traditional fabrics? My Fine Collections is offering a 10 per cent discount on regular-priced items, and 15 per cent off a second purchase. Flash and swipe your UnionPay card for an additional 10 per cent off your total bill.
No outfit is complete without a bag, and there are only too many shops willing to fill that niche. From Jun 8, Gnome & Bow is offering 50 per cent off their Camo Bags, and 30 per cent off their Jekyll’s Hyde Bags and selected wallets. LeSportsac is also offering 60 per cent off selected merchandise, with UnionPay cardholders enjoying an additional 10 per cent off with the purchase of two or more sales items.
This is a nightmare situation that is, unfortunately, all too familiar to most guys: you’re idly checking the calendar at work, when suddenly a date catches your eye. It’s your and your girlfriend’s anniversary, and you’ve completely forgotten.
First things first, don’t panic: you’ve got this. You’ll need somewhere to go, and where better than Fumee. The restaurant is offering a 1-for-1 Angus Prime Ribeye Steak from Aug 6 to Dec 8, with UnionPay cardholders getting 5 per cent off their total bill.
You’ll need a gift for her, but luckily, you’ve got a huge selection to choose from. Go for flowers first: Far East Flora is offering up to 50 per cent off their bestsellers. Then take your pick of jewellery: Goldheart Jewellery is offering $25 off select K-style jewellery, while Benny’s Gems Creations is offering $720 off a diamond pendant. Want something a little out of the ordinary? Get 10 per cent off any regular-priced items from Freywille’s catalogue, made from enamel in Vienna.
If you’re a girl in this situation, don’t fret: Vincent Watch is offering $400 off the Casio Edifice Bluetooth Watch, the perfect gift for your guy. Or check out Autium for a selection of cufflinks; take $320 off a set of 18K Black Gold cufflinks or $310 off 18K Blue Gold cufflinks. To sweeten the deal, UnionPay cardholders get 5 per cent off a minimum purchase of $150.
Wrap up the night with a staycation: stay at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road and get a complimentary $100 voucher for in-store purchases at Reebonz. How’s that for a celebration?
